I wanted to love this revolutionary 3d printer - Micronics SLS Review
Watch this video without ads on Nebula: nebula.tv/videos/strangeparts-i-wanted-to-love-this-revolutionary-3d-printer-micronics-sls-review
I was beyond excited to try out the brand-new Micronics SLS 3D printer, but man, what a ride it turned out to be. From auger jams to sensor errors, this thing has had one problem after another. Trying to get it to work ended up being more of a journey than I bargained for. Despite all my hopes, this printer just isn’t ready for prime time.

I've worked with those gearboxes in the past and they are not very powerful, something along the lines of 1-2 kg lift at 1cm for a 12v model. Along with that the internal gear that connects to the worm drive is usually plastic and chews after a short time.

Kickstarter isn't a preorder platform, that has been a corruption of the original intent because of all the early failures on the platform. Joel, who reviews kickstarters way more often than you, tells you straight up, if it is on kickstarter, make sure you are comfortable setting the money on fire. Large Chinese companies are treating it as a preorder platform because they can. The number of products that look flashy when the reviewer gets them and then they failed to make it to the users hands are very high. I personally wouldn't kickstart this (notice I said kickstart and not preorder), mostly because I don't have $3000 to set on fire.

The comment about “not getting paid to make the video” is a bit dishonest. You do get paid UA-cam ad rev and it’s still in your interest to put a video out. Seeing their full correspondence also shows they weren’t implying they wanted the machine back if it wasn’t going to get a good review. At the end of the day, this is how these things go and I give the creators massive props for building a machine line this from scratch in a scrappy startup fashion. I bet they will get the bugs worked out.

Why do people love to defend companies so quickly, If i had any of these issues after I pledged enough to get a printer I would be fuming, this is not a good process, even as a beta tester you should be allowed to explain issues to your audience. especially when using it and not saying anything bad would insinuate an endorsement. We ask for honesty, we get honesty and then we belittle the person being honest. We review early access games, we review beta games, but somehow, something that is 10x the price "HOW DARE HE SPEAK THE TRUTH!". You all need to figuire out who you are and what you want, I am appreciative of the video and the companies response. Don't Elon Musk every person that promises the future before they deliver it.

Cool... I've only had EEG's, once lasting three frick'n days non stop. Now the three "daze" time was studying epilepsy, but still. I'm researching the latest TBI treatments for a variety of issues noted here. That's been a struggle speaking directly to neurologists locally. I hope you've fully recovered, and shop plus activity within has advanced further. Keep it all up, dude. 👍 ...also, EVERY doctors office/hospital/clinic MUST - by law - upon request provide patients with any or all part of their own medical records. I'm anal about collecting all mine, partly because of my own memory issues, partly because sometimes it's difficult to get doctors at different locations to find data of yesteryear... but most of all because I get a kick out of 3D printing my own innards, lol.

Now this machine. Its times like this I learn a lot about the channels I'm watching. Those that just ignore all the issues and either take the money or the free hardware and those like this one that tell you this is not ready. As exciting as it is to see this kind of printing technology come down an order of magnitude in price. I don't believe this is the company to do it. They are too under funded and trying to do too much. That's just my opinion. I hope to be proved wrong. Them have a great first run with everything fixed. I hope even more they are still around for a V2 as I'd be very interested in seeing that. But I'm out as far as this one goes and I'm exactly the kind of person that would buy this. A real shame.

My issue is that just because you worked real hard on a project for years doesn't mean that someone who had issues with your product, means their opinion is invalid because of it. Micronics needs to hire a PR team and learn to correctly address problems when they arise. Hell they didn't even address Scotty's issues until the end of the video. I get it it's only a couple of people working on this project but you can't let personal feelings get in the way when you represent a company that is trying to bring a product to market. He also treats the unit he received like it's meant to be a fully complete product when it is very clearly an early pre-production unit meant for testing purposes. Micronics even says in their campaign video that they just finished their R&D phase and are ready to move towards production, which is exactly where reliability or logistics issues like are usually worked out

The transparency and discussion of how difficult it is to actually be transparent in how much of a let down this has been is extremely refreshing. The entire Micronics project seems to be attempting to contain how frankly amateur it is at its core in a post-bambu market where products are expected to be professional and coherent at every level. I'm still hopeful that they will find their footing and, if nothing else, demonstrate the viability of affordable desktop SLS in the consumer 3d printer market. Thank you, Scotty!

I don't think less experienced users dependent on highly polished products are the target market for this printer. Given that it currently has an msrp of over 4k USD, this is very much within the range of prosumers to small businesses. The issues this printer has also aren't all that uncommon for SLS printers that cost more than ten times as much, so people should really be tempering their expectations according to what is standard for SLS, not what they are used to with FDM and Resin. Micronics has said themselves that this isn't supposed to be a bambu you can stick in your bedroom and run next to you. Much like printing with PEEK or carbon fiber, SLS is an industrial process that requires working with hazardous materials. Anyone who buys this printer without aware of this has nobody to blame but themselves for failing to do any research on what they were investing in

If this is a beta testing machine I think their problem was to allow people who want to test their machines to make a video of it. Creality did that too often and the units that arr shipped are actually good but most of the reviews are on the beta or alpha version which had bugs which I think hurt sales.

Their behavior dissuaded me from their printer. I would've loved one of these and wouldn't have cared about them taking time to work through the issues. But to shove out something bad and try to cover up instead of offering transparency on the issues is really irresponsible and comes across as cash grabbing instead of being intent on making a solid product. There is so much they could do differently to make this ok and not let these issues stop them. Thanks for keeping us informed, it does look like a cool printer, but if they can't own up to where things are wrong and do better to address them I'm going to avoid Micronics. Amazing how a little humility would save them so much trouble.

I was completely open to buying a beta unit with issues, that's the price of being on the cutting edge. What is a dealbreaker is their attitude with you. Trying to hide the issues and not owning it. Thanks for being honest. Hopefully they receive the feedback: it's not the issues the problem, it's how a company deals with it. This ain't it. Powder likes to clump and is hard to move if its full of moisture heating the powder to get rid of unwanted moisture should make this more reliable.
